U.S. CREDIT CARDS, CLEARLY EXPLAINED
Issuer evidence directory
Last reviewed: 2026-10-20
These are cards to investigate, not a finding that your visa/income qualifies or that you will be approved. Check each card’s evidence, documents and actual bank route.
Use the named-card ITIN evidence
The verified-ITIN category contains seven Capital One cards named in its official guide, Citi Secured Mastercard, and Chase Freedom Rise. This proves an application route, not visa acceptance, income sufficiency or approval. Other Citi/Capital One guidance is marked issuer-general; it is not silently applied to every card.
Existing Amex cardholders: separate relocation program
The official U.S. relocation program describes an eligible existing primary Amex account held at least three months, account standing conditions, a new U.S. home address/phone, U.S. bank details, passport, employment and SSN or ITIN. Corporate cards and cards issued by other banks are excluded from that program. Review the complete current terms; it is not a passport-only or approval-guaranteed shortcut.
Preparation examples, not a universal mandatory list
Prepare legal name, date of birth, address, contact information, tax-ID type, employment, annual income/assets and housing costs. U.S. Bank’s general guide lists possible follow-up examples: government ID, recent pay stubs, tax records and address evidence. A bank may accept or request different evidence. Students should ask what enrollment/status evidence is needed; we do not claim every bank requires I-20, I-94 or EAD.
Product page, directory and branch are different
Open the exact official product page and read the current terms before using its application button. A card-directory link requires selecting the correct card first. Freedom Rise currently directs applicants to a Chase branch. HTTP 200 or a working product page does not verify an applicant’s eligibility. Prequalification and a final credit application are also different.
| Issuer | Evidence level |
|---|---|
| Capital One | Seven cards are named for ITIN. Other Capital One cards are not assumed to share that policy. Official ↗ |
| Chase | Freedom Rise explicitly references SSN/ITIN and currently directs applications to a branch. Do not extend this to every Chase card. Official ↗ |
| Citi | The named secured-card guide specifies SSN or ITIN and review of income/debt. Other Citi guidance is issuer-general. Official ↗ |
| American Express | Relocation program eligibility is conditional; it is not a general approval rule for all Amex cards. Official ↗ |
| U.S. Bank | Its existing-secured-account ITIN FAQ is not evidence that every new card application accepts ITIN. Document guidance is general. Official ↗ |
| Bank of America | Business-card residence guidance is not a personal-card or deposit-account rule. Individual visa and ITIN routes remain to be confirmed. Official ↗ |
| Wells Fargo | Retail-financing and bank-account ITIN rules were not imported into the general-purpose credit-card catalog. Card-specific route confirmation remains necessary. Official ↗ |
| Discover | Student/secured-card and CreditWise enrollment requirements must not be reused as a verified policy for Discover it Cash Back. Confirm the current application. |
