U.S. CREDIT CARDS, CLEARLY EXPLAINED
Before you apply
Last reviewed: 2026-10-20
These are cards to investigate, not a finding that your visa/income qualifies or that you will be approved. Check each card’s evidence, documents and actual bank route.
Confirm the exact status with the issuer
For F-1/M-1, OPT, H-1B/L-1, dependents and other temporary statuses, our card data does not establish a universal visa policy. Ask whether your exact status and remaining document validity are accepted, whether a real U.S. home address is required, and whether an online or branch application is available. A visitor or overseas resident should confirm the permitted channel before applying.
Under 21 and age 21+
CFPB Regulation Z requires ability-to-pay assessment. Under 21, independent ability-to-pay rules apply; do not simply use income you only expect to access from somebody else. Age 21+ may permit reasonably accessible income/assets subject to the rules and issuer instructions. A cosigner/guarantor route is relevant only if the issuer actually offers it.
Preparation examples, not a universal mandatory list
Prepare legal name, date of birth, address, contact information, tax-ID type, employment, annual income/assets and housing costs. U.S. Bank’s general guide lists possible follow-up examples: government ID, recent pay stubs, tax records and address evidence. A bank may accept or request different evidence. Students should ask what enrollment/status evidence is needed; we do not claim every bank requires I-20, I-94 or EAD.
Product page, directory and branch are different
Open the exact official product page and read the current terms before using its application button. A card-directory link requires selecting the correct card first. Freedom Rise currently directs applicants to a Chase branch. HTTP 200 or a working product page does not verify an applicant’s eligibility. Prequalification and a final credit application are also different.
Only submit documents to the issuer
This site does not request full SSN/ITIN numbers, passport numbers, bank account numbers or uploaded documents. Keep confirmation numbers after a real application. If the issuer requests documents, verify its official website or contact channel first; do not email them to an unverified intermediary.
